Junior Achievement
"...hands on program that encourages entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy."
Karen Hartje, a former teacher, found the perfect volunteering outlet that combined her love for teaching and her role at United Bank of Iowa. During the fall 2016 semester, Karen had the opportunity to volunteer with Ms. Smith's 2nd grade class at Storm Lake Elementary 5 different times for about an hour each. Each session presented a different hands on activity and lesson for the students to work on in groups and individually. The lessons were centered around Junior Achievement's mission to "to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy."
Karen shared her experience below:
"Being a part of the Juniors Achievers for the first time this year was a wonderful experience! The students were so excited to have me in their classroom. They especially enjoyed the session where they made and decorated donuts for their Sweet “O” Donuts shop. This hands on program engaged the students in multiple activities that encouraged entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy. I can’t wait to do this again next year!" - Karen Hartje
